About the Founder
From music journalism to concert promotion, The Elixir Media Group’s founder Andre Barnes comes from a diverse, nearly decade-long background in entertainment. During his time in the Midwest between Chicago, Illinois and his hometown of Detroit, Michigan, Andre had a hand in producing and promoting shows with Jay Electronica, Kids These Days (the band from which Chicago superstar Vic Mensa originated), Robert Glasper, Black Milk, and more.
As Project Coordinator for the American Cancer Society’s Illinois initiative Music Saved My Life, Andre managed marketing, booking, and logistical planning of a statewide music tour that reached over 13,000 people through concerts and community outreach events.
His experience as a former music blogger, radio DJ, and freelance music journalist for NPR and All Music Guide provided him with valuable insight on the way media functions. These experiences along with his tenure as Director of Marketing & Publicity for New York City’s legendary live music venue, SOB’s (Sounds of Brazil), all served as critical building blocks to Andre’s career in PR.
However, it’s Andre’s lifelong passion for music that fuels his deep desire to help talented artists get their work to as many ears as possible. His appreciation for and understanding of all music was instilled as a young child through his exposure to artists such as Pat Matheny, Wes Montgomery, Sting, Led Zeppelin, and others across the music spectrum.
Andre’s appreciation for music was further nurtured during a summer internship during college with the world-renowned independent electronic music label, Ghostly International. While attending the University of Michigan as a student/athlete, Andre produced concerts, weekend-long hip hop events, ran his own music blog, and hosted a college radio show.
After graduating with a B.A. in Communication Studies and spending time making his mark in the Midwest, Andre left to get his footing in the New York market at SOB’s, where he developed and maintained valuable co-branding partnerships, and managed and oversaw all marketing & PR for one of the world’s most renowned live music venues.
It was here that Andre began to fully realize his ability to help talented artists gain the recognition they deserve. Thus, The Elixir Media Group was born with one goal in mind: help artists share their gift on the largest scale possible while spreading the wealth of good music to the world.
